The bodies of those killed in the Hathras stampede were brought to Etah’s district hospital. After the post-mortem, a senior doctor said that the main cause of death of these people was suffocation due to pressure. He said that after the stampede, the hospital conducted four times more post-mortems in a day than the normal number.

27 bodies were brought to the mortuary of the district hospital here following the stampede at Phulrai village in Hathras on Tuesday. The total death toll rose to 121 and the bodies were taken to various hospitals in nearby areas, including Etah and Aligarh.

Additional Chief Medical Officer of Etah, Dr. Ram Mohan Tiwari said that the post-mortem of the bodies brought here was done. He said that some bodies have been identified, while some are yet to be identified. Tiwari said that the cause of death of almost all has been found to be suffocation due to pressure.

He said most of those killed were women in the 40 to 50 age group. When asked about the condition of the hospital, the senior doctor said they see an average of four to five post-mortems per day in the district. He said the number of bodies on Tuesday was much higher than the average, forcing the hospital staff and officials to work beyond the regular time.
